Dear Healy Families,
As you know, it has always been our mission to provide the strongest support systems for our students at Healy. It is imperative that our Healy families are an integral part of that. Studies show that the parental involvement in a child’s education is one of the most important factors in raising student self-esteem and academic achievement. Moreover, most experts agree that parental involvement should go beyond attendance at teacher conferences and open house. We realize, however, that each of our families is unique-with its own priorities, needs, talents and time constraints and so we try to provide as many different kinds of opportunities for parental involvement as possible.
Being a part of the Healy Community is about working together toward a common goal. That goal is creating a better school and a better educational experience for our children. We strive to create an atmosphere where teachers and administrators can do their best work—and so our children grow and achieve success in the process. In the past year, with the help of our parent volunteers, and parent organizations, such as Healy Stars and the Healy Parent Advisory Council, below lists just a few of our accomplishments:
- Helping with the Dental Program so that all students have access to free dental screenings
- Actively supervise recess and lunch times which are integral to the Social-emotional and physical health of our students
- Coordinating our annual Healy Walkathon which raises an annual amount of $15,000 which goes directly back to the students in some of the following ways: Incentives for attendance and hard work and effort, providing air conditioning in needed rooms, replacing damaged and unsafe shades and window treatments
- Providing supports in the classroom that resulted in greater student engagement and achievement
- Offering Parent Workshops to help you better support your child
- Sponsoring the Back to School BBQ
- Helping with various events, such as school plays, 8th Grade Luncheon and graduation related events, parent orientations, field trips
- Coordinating Home-School Communication folders
Volunteering doesn’t mean a huge time commitment. An hour or two a semester makes a big difference. And we have jobs to fit your time schedule and interests. We even have tasks that don’t involve coming to the school at all.
Won’t you join us? It’s easy—and it really makes a difference!
Please email the Healy Stars if you are interested in helping out with school events: [email protected]. In addition, please see below for important and NEW information pertaining to the volunteer and/or chaperone:
Potential chaperones simply need to complete the short online application process at cpsvolunteers.org.
- Overnight trips will require a more in-depth process. Either way, we suggest volunteer coordinators encourage potential chaperones to begin the process a month ahead of the scheduled field trip.
- ALL volunteers MUST have a background check. (This is inclusive of field trip chaperones)
