Completing a rigorous algebra course in the middle grades will enable your child to enroll in advanced
mathematics courses such as AP Calculus or AP Statistics, as a senior in high school. Studies indicate that
enrolling in advanced mathematics classes in high school increases the likelihood of success in college.
Students enrolled in High School Algebra I for Middle Grade Students are expected to:
Students who successfully complete the course with a grade of “C” or better and who pass the citywide end-of-
year algebra examination will have the opportunity to enroll in geometry or another advanced mathematics
course in high school.
HOW TO ACCESS YOUR ALGEBRA BOOK ONLINE
1. Go to www.classzone.com
2. Select your subject: math- high school
3. Select Illinois ( click on the map)
4. Find your textbook: click on “Go”
5. Click on the appropriate book icon: Select Algebra 1 2004
6. Once you are on this website, you can access extra help, games, puzzles and an online version of our textbook.
7. Click on the ONLINE BOOK link.
8. Click on “student login” At this point, it will ask you for your user name and password, which you will create after clicking on “Create Account” It will also ask for the Book ISBN number which is 0395937760. Fill in your first and last name and birthdate.
9. Create your username which is your CPS e-mail address
10. Create your password which is your student ID number
11. Choose the question to ask if you forget your password and type in the answer.
12. Click “Submit” - you must have Flash installed in order to see the text book.
***This is only necessary the first time you select the online book. Once this step is complete, you can access the online book using your user name and password from any computer with internet access.
WARNING: Technology is wonderful; however, technology failure cannot be used as an excuse for an incomplete assignment. Please prepare a plan for what you will do if your computer doesn’t start or if your internet connection is down.
